They are considered luminaries because they lead, inspire, influence, and enlighten others through their prominence, brilliance, and visionary efforts. Their lives, sacrifices and achievements serve as an enduring torch, a shining light, thus guiding and opening the path to others.
Dr. Richard Allen Williams is a pioneering cardiologist, founder of the Association of Black Cardiologists, founder and president of the Minority Health Institute, and the 117th president of the National Medical Association. A cum laude graduate of Harvard University and M.D. graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Dr. Williams has devoted his career to advancing cardiology, improving health equity, and mentoring future physician leaders.
