Clinical Trial Lifestyle Coach – Cardiometabolic Health

Remote / Telehealth | Clinical Research

Help Patients Build Healthier Habits While Participating in Clinical Research

We are seeking an engaging, patient-focused Lifestyle Coach to support individuals participating in clinical trials evaluating new approaches to cardiovascular health, weight management, and cardiometabolic disease.

In this fully virtual role, you will meet with clinical trial participants through scheduled telehealth visits and provide structured coaching and education focused on healthy eating habits, physical activity, wellness, and sustainable lifestyle change.

This is not a clinical research coordinator position, and a Registered Dietitian credential is not required. The Lifestyle Coach will work within study-specific guidelines and educational materials to help participants establish goals, identify barriers, build healthy habits, and remain engaged in lifestyle changes throughout their clinical trial participation.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct scheduled virtual lifestyle coaching visits with clinical trial participants.
  • Provide protocol-directed education and coaching related to healthy eating, physical activity, wellness, and behavioral change.
  • Help participants establish realistic and achievable lifestyle goals.
  • Work with participants to identify barriers and develop practical strategies to support healthier habits.
  • Discuss progress, successes, challenges, and barriers during follow-up visits.
  • Use motivational interviewing and other behavior-change techniques to encourage participant engagement and sustainable change.
  • Reinforce general principles related to balanced food choices, portion awareness, meal planning, hydration, physical activity, sleep, and overall wellness.
  • Provide encouragement, accountability, and practical strategies to help participants remain engaged with their lifestyle goals.
  • Follow study protocols, visit schedules, educational materials, and other study-specific requirements.
  • Accurately and promptly document each participant interaction in the designated electronic system of record.
  • Complete required study assessments, questionnaires, and documentation.
  • Recognize questions or concerns that fall outside the Lifestyle Coach's scope and appropriately escalate them to the clinical research team or investigator.
  • Collaborate with physicians, research coordinators, and other members of the clinical trial team.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and follow HIPAA, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and applicable clinical research requirements.

What You Will Not Be Responsible For

The Lifestyle Coach does not independently diagnose or treat medical conditions, provide individualized medical nutrition therapy, recommend changes to medications or study treatment, or provide medical advice.

Questions regarding medications, symptoms, adverse events, or other clinical concerns will be referred to the appropriate member of the clinical research team.

What We Are Looking For

We are interested in candidates with backgrounds in health and wellness coaching, exercise science, health education, nutrition education, behavioral science, public health, fitness, or other related fields.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences, exercise science, nutrition, public health, health education, psychology, behavioral science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in health coaching, wellness, weight management, patient education, fitness, or behavior-change programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to establish meaningful rapport with patients in a virtual environment.
  • An encouraging, nonjudgmental approach to discussing weight, nutrition, activity, and lifestyle behaviors.
  • Ability to motivate individuals while recognizing that sustainable change looks different for every participant.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfort learning and working within structured clinical trial protocols.
  • Ability to learn electronic documentation and clinical research systems quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while remaining closely connected with the clinical research team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health and wellness coaching certification, such as NBC-HWC, or similar training.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing or other evidence-based behavior-change techniques.
  • Experience supporting individuals with cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, metabolic conditions, or other chronic health conditions.
  • Experience providing virtual or telehealth-based coaching.
  • Experience with structured lifestyle or weight-management programs.
  • Prior clinical research experience is helpful but not required.

Why This Role Is Different

Clinical research is about more than evaluating a treatment. Many studies also seek to understand how nutrition, physical activity, behavioral change, and sustainable healthy habits can contribute to better health outcomes.

As a Clinical Trial Lifestyle Coach, you will develop ongoing relationships with study participants—helping them establish goals, work through barriers, recognize progress, and build healthier habits while they contribute to research that may shape future approaches to cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Clinical research experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is exceptional at connecting with people, coaching behavior change, and helping individuals turn health recommendations into achievable everyday actions. Training will be provided on clinical research, study protocols, documentation requirements, and research systems.
